A very early saint, St. Augustine prayed as follows "Lord, I believe, help my unbelief". God doesn't give us to know with our brains that He is there for us, He only gives us to know with faith.
Faith, hope and love. Of the three hope is easiest because we can't live without hope. Love is simply to return all the kindnesses that we receive in life. Faith is hardest because it is a gift of God and we don't earn it but somehow we must find it.
Monday is a big day coming up for our team. Jody will stay with us Sunday and we all, Carolyn, Michelle, Jody and I will roll out at 8:00 am and head for the Oncologist in Rockford for chemotherapy # 2. The game plan is for me to lay low for a week after that.
There are advances being made in cancer treatment all the time and I am part of a clinical trial of a new oral medication to supliment chemo and maintain whatever remission that comes from chemo for a longer time. See why hope is easy!
Best regards from Mike and family.

For those of you who have had the opportunity to watch the tribute that Jody did for Mike’s 70th birthday you saw a picture of Mike as a teenager sitting on a chair at his house with his younger brother. Didn’t know Mike had a younger brother? Did you know I have an older brother? Just over 56 years ago I entered Mike’s life to begin a journey that has taken me to a myriad of places that only Mike could take me. My youngest memories of Mike are of me running down the wooden floor in the apartment where my mother and I lived with Mike and making as much noise as I possibly could because he was always sleeping. And as we all know nothing has changed! You can still find Mike taking a nap somewhere.
Brothers. I think that is the best way to describe our life together. Brothers we have been for all these years thru good times and bad but always somehow managing to get thru the ups and downs of life with a smile on our face. Course we have trashed a lot of people along the way to keep that smile on our face but always in good clean fun and always to someone who richly deserved it! If you don’t know who you are just let me know and I will name names. Some of the best times Mike and I have had have been on a golf course where Mike has spent my entire adult life trying to beat me in a round of golf. To this day he still hasn’t figured out I never could count strokes accurately.
I last saw Mike on the Friday after his first treatment and I was greatly relieved to see the Mike I have always known. He was upbeat and determined that he was going to do anything he could to beat the cancer that had invaded his body. We had a wonderful day together and talked about many things including whether or not I was too tired to play nine holes! Instead we enjoyed a beautiful day together catching up. And during the course of the day Mike took at least 3 naps (surprised?) and Carolyn and I had the chance to spend some time together. In the evening we were joined by Jody, Kevin and Michelle and we all had pizza and beer, our favorite pastime. Mike and I have spent many years trying to find the perfect pizza thru a whole sea of beer!
Christy and I went to Ireland a couple of years ago and everybody had lots of questions about our trip since Mike, Carolyn, Jody and Michelle are planning their own trip to Ireland in the near future. Ireland is a wonderful place and you will greatly enjoy it. I look forward to hearing all about your trip.
I love you Michael James with all that I am and look forward to spending a good day with you again soon. Keep up the fight. You can beat this thing. I know you can.
